These Portuguese researchers independently confirm the clear advantage to using a fractal antenna, in WLAN, in this case with a dongle (USB drive) antenna. Using optimizing computer simulation they find the best antenna for the WLAN standards at 2.4 and 5.8 GHz—with fractal design.
The authors note this fractal antenna, through optimization, demonstrates the superior result in performance—with 94% radiative efficiency or better, with better than dipole gain at higher frequencies— using the fractal incorporated design.

Read range is what its all about in RFID, as the tags themselves get their power from the reader antenna
some distance away. Better reader antennas spell better accuracy for tag reading. Researchers from Finland’s Tampere University show here a comparative study of a variety of different reader antennas, and demonstrate that by far the best read range is achieved with a fractal antenna.
The authors note the Koch/Minkowski fractal is superior in making the RFID reader antenna with the greatest range.
